Room and central AC filters
Replacing or cleaning your room or central AC filters regularly is the single most important way to get energy savings from it.
Dirty filters obstruct air flow, causing the air that bypasses the filter to carry dirt into the AC coils, reducing their capacity and causing a sharp reduction on the efficiency of the air conditioning equipment.
AC filters Location
Room air conditioners filters are typically mounted in the grill that faces into the room.
Central AC filters are typically located somewhere along the return ducts, eventually in the air conditioner itself, or in the furnace, but often in the walls or in the ceiling.
Types of AC filters
There are several types of air conditioning filters. Some are reusable, but many aren’t, and should be replaced regularly. Pay attention to the room and central AC filters quality (and efficiency), which may vary.
Frequency of the AC cleaning or replacing
During the cooling season, clean or replace filters every month or every two months.
Filters cleaning or replacement depends on use, environmental conditions (dusty places…), fur-bearing pets, etc.
