AC filters
If you are using air conditioning, replacing or cleaning your air conditioner filters regularly is the single most important task to get cooling energy savings.
Dirty filters obstruct air flow, causing the air that bypasses the filter to carry dirt into the coils, reducing their capacity and causing a sharp reduction on the efficiency of the system.
Location
Room air conditioners filters are typically mounted in the grill that faces into the room. Central air conditioners filters are typically located somewhere along the return ducts, eventually in the air conditioner itself or in the furnace, but often in the walls or in the ceiling.
Types of filters
There are several types of air conditioning filters. Some are reusable, but many aren’t and should be replaced. Pay attention to their efficiency, which also varies a lot.
Monthly cleaning or replacing
During the cooling season, clean or replace filters every month or every two months. Filters cleaning or replacement depends on the use, environmental conditions (dusty places…), fur-bearing pets, etc.
