evaporative coolers maintenance
Evaporative coolers should be drained and cleaned monthly during the cooling periods and whenever in use. Maintenance of evaporative coolers is easy, and a do-it-yourself job, but shouldn’t be forgotten or underestimated. Neglecting maintenance is a cause of various problems.
Due to their regular maintenance requirements, an easy access to the units should be considered, when designing the installation of evaporative coolers.
Routine Maintenance
Manufacturers recommend a monthly routine maintenance in operational periods, but some other seasonal maintenance may also be necessary. The more a cooler runs, the more maintenance it will require.
Clean the pads, reservoir, filters and pump monthly. In cooling periods, natural fiber pads should be replaced once a month, or at least once every two months... Filters should also be cleaned whenever the pads are cleaned (or changed).
Most synthetic cooler pads can be cleaned with soap and water, or with a weak acid solution. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Stagnant water
To avoid bacteria and mold growth related with stagnant water, you should empty and clean the drip pans before any significant off-period.
