cooling with fans
Fans can be excellent cooling devices. In some climates they can be associated to cross ventilation (or to natural ventilation when breezes fail to blow).
Reducing Air Conditioning Use
The air movement provided by a properly sized ceiling fan in a room is equivalent to a 4º-5ºF decreasing in indoor temperatures. That makes ceiling fans a wise option.

Cross ventilation with fans
You can use window and portable fans to get cross ventilation when breezes fail to blow and outside temperatures are cooler than indoors.

Using fans in hot climates
Ceiling fans are an option to consider in hotter climates, in strategies based either on air conditioning (to reduce its use) or in strategies using natural ventilation, when breezes don’t blow.
