Ceiling Fans Tips and Advices
Tip 1:
Turn off ceiling fans when not in the room
Do not use ceiling fans when not in home. Ceiling
fans do not cool rooms: they cool people. To save energy, if not
in the room, turn off the ceiling fans.
Tip 2:
The fan blades direction
In the summer, the ceiling fan blades should turn in the
counter-clockwise direction.
In the winter, ceiling fans can help to push the warm air near
the ceiling: just change the direction of the fan blades to the
clockwise direction and set the fan on the lowest speed. This
will drive warm air near the ceiling to lower levels, without
producing cold…
Tip
3:
Adjust your thermostat
When using ceiling fans, raise
the thermostat setting around 4º F- 5º F (around 3ºC), to get
energy savings and lower energy bills. Raising
the thermostat setting 4 - 5º F degrees may reduce your
air conditioning costs by 30 -40%, with no reduction in comfort.
Tip 4:
Distances
Ceiling fans work best when their blades are 7–9
feet above the floor and 10 to 12 inches below the ceiling.
Fans shouldn’t be installed too close to the walls either: they should stand more than 18 inches from
them.
