ceiling fans tips and usage
Do not forget to turn off your ceiling fans when not in home, or to adjust the thermostat if you are using ceiling fans and air conditioning simultaneously.
Tip 1: Turn off the ceiling fans when not in home
Do not use ceiling fans when not in home. Ceiling fans do not cool rooms: they cool people. To save energy, if not in home or in the room where a ceiling fan is installed, turn it off.
Tip 2: The fan blades direction
Typically, ceiling fan blades turn in the counter-clockwise direction. However, in winter, in high ceiling homes, ceiling fans can help to push the warm air stratified near the ceiling: to achieve it, change the direction of the fan blades to the clockwise direction, and set the fan on the lowest speed. This will drive warm air stratified near the ceiling to lower levels, increasing the homeowner's comfort…
Tip 3: Adjust your thermostat
When using ceiling fans and air conditioning simultaneously, do not forget to raise the thermostat setting around 4- 5º F (3ºC), to get lower energy bills. Raising the thermostat setting 4-5º F degrees may reduce your air conditioning costs by 30 -40%, with no decrease in comfort.
Tip 4: Distances
Ceiling fans work best when their blades are 7–9 feet above the floor, and 10 to 12 inches below the ceiling.
Fans shouldn’t be installed too close to the walls either: locate the fan 18 inches or more from them.
