Aluminum Garage Doors: Pros and Cons
Aluminum garage doors
pros
Aluminum garage doors are low maintenance and low
cost doors.
Aluminum doors are lighter than steel doors, which makes them
easier to open and close (a reasonable advantage if you don’t
have or do not intend to install an automatic opener).
Aluminum garage doors are usually cheaper than
steel doors, and can also be built with a layer of good
insulation material, which make them as energy efficient as
steel ones.
Aluminum garage doors cons
Aluminum garage doors are very easily dented.
That’s their major and big drawback, when compared to steel
garage doors.
If there is a reasonable or high risk of denting, steel garage
doors are preferable.
Aluminum garage doors prices
Aluminum garage doors are slightly cheaper ($200 dollars or so,
for similar doors) than steel ones.
Aluminum tilt-up and single-piece garage doors are popular and
inexpensive: prices from $500 to $800 are common.
Insulated aluminum garage doors, are more expensive – $1000 -
$1300 – but they will deserve the price if you your garage is
contiguous to your home’s rooms or if you are
using it as a social or working space.
