custom vs. standard garage doors
Standard sizes garage doors are cheaper and may help on possible future repairs.
Standard garage doors
Standard garage doors are 7 feet (2,13 m) or 8 feet (2,44 m) height. 8 feet (2,44 m) height doors are less common than 7 feet (2,13 m) but they can be also considered standard.
Standard widths are:
Single car doors: 8x7, 9x7, 10x7 feet (2.13x2.5, 2.75x2.5, 3x2.5 meters)
Double car (two car garage doors): 12x7, 14x7, 16x7, 18x7 feet (3.65 x 2.5, 4.25x2.5, 4.88x2.5 meters)
Cart: 5x7; 6x7 feet (1.5 x 2.5, 2.13 x 2.5 meters)
Some manufacturers have some particular door garage models with some extra standard sizes.
Custom Size & Door Garages
Most manufacturers produce doors in custom widths with a relatively small additional up-charge.
You just have to measure your opening and take the measurements to the manufacturer, or to a local specialized store (or a big chain like Lowe’s or Home Depots).
