Heat pumps prices

Prices of geothermal heat pumps are significantly higher than those of air-source heat pumps.

Typical average prices

A typical geothermal heat pump system may cost you around $2,500 per ton of capacity, and since a typically sized home uses a three-ton unit, the final cost may be around $7,500...

The prices of central air-source heat pumps are substantially lower: something around $3,000-$5,000 on average for a three-ton unit (ductless mini-split systems cost a little more...).

But these are just references. You should be cautious in this matter, since quality is the most important.

Geothermal heat pumps vs air-source heat pumps buying

Geothermal heat pumps are more energy-efficient than air-source heat pumps. They do not demand supplemental electrical heaters in freezing temperatures, and they produce a lower carbon dioxide output and higher energy savings.

The disadvantages are on their higher investment and on their trickier installation; and on constraints like the demanded space below and outside your home (for the ground pipes installation).

Heat Pumps Best Buying

Be careful with prices. Demand well sized certified units. A low purchase price can easily be swallowed up by higher energy bills.

There are many models and many manufacturers, with very different heat pumps prices. When studying options, make sure of what the prices include.
