electric Wall heaters

Most electric wall heaters involve an electric element and a reflector behind it, and a fan to move air through the heater. The warm air is reflected into the room through the reflector…

These heaters are usually installed on interior walls.

When to consider electric wall heaters

Electric wall heaters have the same limitations of other electric resistance heating. They are aren’t environment-friendly unless the electricity they use is yield by photovoltaic panels or other renewable source, and they are more expensive to run than common alternatives based on natural gas, propane or oil…

Only for small uses and in dry-hot climates with hot or mixed temperatures, demanding just some days of heating during the year, electric wall heaters make economical sense. In these cases, the low price of electric wall heaters - and the safety associated with them - can make them a reasonable or good option.

Alternatives to electric wall heaters

If your energy needs are high or even moderate, consider other non-electrical space heaters. Environmental solutions (pellet stoves, solar energy, geothermal heat pumps, solar passive techniques, etc.) and modern efficient equipment like gas stoves or pellet stoves are better solutions.

In cold climates and in case of medium or large uses, electric wall heaters may also make sense in zone heating strategies. In this case, the electric wall heater is turned on through an occupancy sensor, only when the occupancy sensor.

The best electric wall heaters

Electric wall heaters may differ on price but also on quality. Cheap electric wall heaters have open wire elements and cheap fans which are manifestly a poor solution. Electric wall heaters with open coil wire elements have a quick heat up time, but they also run hotter and their heating dies quicker.

If you intend to buy an electric wall heater, prefer a no-open coil heater (tubular and plate finned tubular), with fan delay and wholly enclosed motors. They are safer and they have a longer life and quieter operation.

Pay also attention to the warranty issue: only the best wall heaters have large warranties, typically 5 years.
