dishwasher rating
When choosing a dishwasher pay special attention to its size and type (see Dishwasher Prices and Sizes) and to its energy efficiency and performance. Choose a qualified dishwasher.
The manufacturer is an important reference when buying a dishwasher, but since the same manufacturer offer very different models with very different performances, pay special attention to the dishwasher energy label.
Qualified Energy Star Models & Ratings
In USA and Canada choose Energy Star labeled dishwashers. That means a particularly efficient appliance, using less energy and water than conventional models.
Also check the yellow EnergyGuide label. This label estimates the amount of energy the model uses, and compares it with similar models. The label also estimates the operating costs of the dishwasher, based on the yearly estimated cost of gas or electric water heating for a weekly six washing loads, using typical settings.
European dishwasher rating
The European Eco-label - symbolized by a flower – is the equivalent to the American EnergyGuide label. That label is a guarantee of reduced energy consumption (class A+ and A+++), reduced noise, easy recycling and high performance.
For more information, see: European Dish Washer Eco-Label
Australian dishwasher rating
Australia has also an Energy Rating label for dishwashers, involving rules largely similar to those used to rate other appliances (see Fridge Labeling). The label involves a star rating, for a quick comparative assessment (the more the number of stars, the better) and an evaluation of the energy consumption.

American and European manufacturers
European dishwasher manufacturers include well known names like Miele, Bosh, Indesit or Fisher & Paykel. American manufacturers include names like GE, Maytag, Sears Kenmore or Whirlpool…
To a complete list of manufacturers and their models and ratings, see the Energy Star page for dishwasher manufacturers and their models.
Dishwasher ratings and warranties
Warranties vary a lot from manufacturer to manufacturer, and are different in their contents: they can involve free parts and labor, the door, etc.
A one year full warranty is a very common warranty, but there are manufacturers (Maytag, for instance) offering much larger ones.
