refrigerators and freezers rating
Choose a qualified refrigerator with a good ranking. Take into account the Energy Guide Label (USA and Canada), the European Eco-Label, the Australian Energy Rating Label or another equivalent official label...
USA and Canada: Labels and Rating
KWh/Year
In USA and Canada, to compare energy efficiency across different fridges and freezers, look for the "kWh/year" on the yellow Energy Guide Label posted on the appliances.
You may also consult the Energy Star site. It provides files with lists of manufacturers and their fridge models and energy consumption.
Yellow Energy Guide Label
This label is a valuable instrument to compare fridges and freezers. It contains key information, namely their estimated annual energy consumption, or their yearly operating cost.
Europe & Refrigerators Labels and Ratings
In Europe, take into account the European Eco-label for Refrigerators, symbolized by a green flower. Fridges with that label have lower energy consumption (class A+ and A+++), reduced noise, are easy to recycle and have a better impact on environment and health.

Australia and New Zealand & Labels and Ratings
Australia has also an Energy Rating label for refrigerators, freezers and other appliances, with two main features:
- The star rating, for a quick comparative assessment of the fridge energy efficiency: the more stars, the better.
- The comparative energy consumption: kilowatt hours/year, equivalent to that of Energy Star in USA and Canada.
