Every poker site review published here is built on a consistent, structured evaluation process. Our editors are experienced in the online poker space, and they apply the same framework to every platform they assess. The goal is simple: give players an honest, evidence-based picture of where a site stands before they deposit a dollar.
Ratings here are not shaped by who pays the most or which brands have the loudest marketing. Our team strives to put the reader’s interests first in every assessment. We earn revenue through affiliate partnerships, and we think transparency about that matters. What we can say honestly is that commercial relationships do not dictate our scores. Negative findings are included in reviews even when a partnership exists, because a rating that does not reflect reality is worth nothing to the player reading it.
Six core areas form the backbone of every site evaluation. Each one is assessed in detail, and the findings are weighed together to reach an overall rating.
A poker site is only as good as its player pool. We look at the volume of active players across different stake levels and formats, assessing whether there are consistently populated tables at the times US players are most likely to sit down. We also examine the variety of games on offer, including Texas Hold’em, Omaha, mixed games, and any other formats the site supports. A broad game library with thin traffic is not the same as a focused room with healthy action.
For many players, tournaments are the main event. We review the quality and consistency of a site’s tournament offering, including daily and weekly guaranteed events, buy-in range, tournament formats (such as freezeouts, re-entries, and turbos), and whether major series are part of the calendar. Sites that cater only to high-stakes tournament players at the expense of recreational ones are noted accordingly.
The client is where you spend your time at the table. We assess the desktop and mobile experience, looking at stability, speed, interface design, multi-tabling capability, and the quality of hand history and tracking tools. Poor software is a genuine problem for players, and it is weighted accordingly in our ratings.
Rake is an ongoing cost for any poker player, so how a site structures its rewards program matters. We examine rakeback rates, VIP or loyalty schemes, welcome bonuses, reload offers, and any freeroll or satellite opportunities available to players. We look past headline figures to assess the actual value a player is likely to extract at different volume levels.
Depositing and withdrawing in the US online poker market involves its own set of complications. We review the payment methods available, including credit and debit cards, e-wallets, bank transfers, and cryptocurrency where applicable. Processing times, withdrawal limits, and any fees are all part of the picture. Sites that make cashouts difficult or slow are penalized.
A poker site must protect its players. We look at licensing and regulatory oversight, data encryption standards, account security features (such as two-factor authentication), and the site’s track record on player fund protection. Platforms operating without credible licensing or with a history of unresolved player complaints are not recommended.
Each evaluation follows the same sequence. Our reviewers gather data across all six criteria, cross-referencing with player community feedback, regulatory records, and direct testing of the platform where possible. Findings are documented, discussed internally, and then compiled into a published review.
Reviews are revisited on a regular basis. When a platform makes significant changes, whether positive or negative, the rating is updated to reflect the current reality. A score from two years ago that no longer matches the product is not useful to anyone.
Not every site we assess ends up recommended. Platforms with unresolved payment complaints, insufficient licensing for US players, or software that falls below an acceptable standard are excluded. Player safety is a baseline condition, not one factor among many.
